Extended Learning Allocations
Extended learning will be set in the following ways for students.
- Retrieval Practice / Self-quizzing - using subject knowledge organisers
- Flipped Learning / practising skills from a previous lesson
- Online Platforms for instant feedback (Hegarty, Seneca, Language Nut, Quizizz, BrainScape etc.)
Please find below extended learning timetables for students in Years 7-11; should you have questions regarding the nature of the extended learning set, or frequency, please contact individual subject teachers.
All extended learning is set on Class Charts.
Class Charts. is an online tool to help your child, and you keep track of their extended learning. You can see the details of the tasks your child has been set and their deadlines. We hope that it will improve your child’s organisation, time-management and help them to keep on top of their workload. Features include:

Year 7 Extended Learning Timetable
At Hillcrest we recognise the importance of extended learning in developing students’ knowledge and skills beyond the classroom. The setting of regular, meaningful extended learning will help each child to make good progress and to succeed in their examinations.
Extended learning will be set and explained in class, but also posted on Class Charts. All students and parents have a personal log in to the site. All deadlines for extended learning will be clearly visible on the individual student’s extended learning list.
In addition to the extended learning outlined below each student will be expected to read for 20 minutes per day.
Additional notes:
· Students in Year 7 are expected to spend an average of one hour per night on extended learning plus 20 minutes reading.
· In some subjects a longer project of extended learning may be set. This may last for up to half a term. In this case the extended learning will be broken down into short term goals to allow students to manage their time.
· The pattern of extended learning may change at certain times of the year e.g. before examinations and during practical sessions in Technology/ Art.
· In addition to the above allocation, Performing Arts extended learning will be set when required.

· In some subjects a longer project or extended piece of extended learning may be set. This may last for up to half a term. In this case the extended learning will be broken down into short term goals to allow students to manage their time.
· The pattern of extended learning may change at certain times of the year e.g. before examinations and during practical sessions in Technology.
· In addition to the above allocation, Performing Arts extended learning will be set when required.

· In addition to extended learning set by subject staff, they are expected to spend approximately fifteen minutes on reviewing their day’s lessons or revision. This is included within the one hour and thirty minutes
· In some subjects a longer project or extended piece of extended learning may be set. The project may last for up to half a term. In this case the extended learning will be broken down into short term goals to allow students to manage their time.
· The pattern of extended learning may change at certain times of the year e.g. before examinations and during practical sessions in Technology.

· In some subjects a longer project of extended learning may be set. This will be the case for many BTEC and Foundation Learning courses. This may last for up to half a term. In this case the extended learning will be broken down into short term goals to allow students to manage their time.
· The pattern of extended learning may change at certain times of the year e.g. before examinations and coursework.
