Transition from Primary to Secondary School

What happens?

Once we receive a list of our new students, all girls and their parents/carers are asked to attend a personal interview with a senior member of staff in school.

They receive a copy of our Parents’ Handbook and there is an opportunity to discuss areas of strength and weakness and any concerns they may have. Students then spend a day at the school in July for their induction into the school.  During this time they meet their fellow students, head of year, form tutor and other members of staff.

In the evening parents/carers are invited to meet the key members of staff. Our aim is to give the girls a happy day and to foster a sense of security and belonging before they begin in September.

Summer School

All students are invited to attend the ‘Hillcrest Summer School’ which takes place over three days in the summer holidays.  There is no cost for attending the summer school and students will take part in a range of activities that encourage team work and creativity, but at the same time allow them to have fun and get to know other students in their year group.  The summer school is very popular with new students and is a great way to prepare students for their move to Hillcrest in September.  Below is what last year’s students thought of the programme:
